Painting entitled: Let the drummer get SUM
Mixed medium: Acrylics, Oil Stick, Marker on Canvas
Size 48in x 36
There was a line James Brown gives his drummer (Clyde Stubblefield) when he lets him solo at one of his shows Where Mr. Brown says "GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME" and we here what becomes the funky drummer sample that ceated HIP HOP MUsic as we know it. After learning that history I painted this idea of a drummer playing with colors and sounds all around him and what it would look like.
Drums are the basis for all African peoples music and I painted with that same spirit, the sirit of rhythm and syncopation that the drums give to all that hear its heart beat.
